《念住經》云:「為貪瞋癡一切根本者,謂罪惡友,此如毒樹。」《涅槃經》云:「如諸菩薩怖畏惡友,非醉象等,此唯壞身,前者俱壞善及淨心。」
The《Mindfulness of the Excellent Teaching》 states: The basis of all attachment, hostility, and ignorance is bad friends; they are like a poisonous tree trunk. The 《Great Final Nirvāna Sūtra》 also says that bodhisattvas do not fear mad elephants and the like in the same way that they fear bad friends. The former merely destroy the body, whereas the latter destroy both virtue and a pure mind.
《正法念住經》說:「所有貪瞋癡煩惱的根基就是惡友,他就像生長出含毒枝葉的樹一樣。」《涅槃經》也說:所依身為蒲阿的補特伽羅,不繪像畏懼惡友那般地對待醉象等那麼害怕,因為那醉象只能摧毀此生的軀體,不會摧毀來生的安樂及期因 -- 善業等等,而前者惡友則會醫病摧毀來生安樂知音 -- 善業,以及等起的清淨心。
