是故凡是自之尊重,任其過失若大若小,應當思惟,尋求師過所有過患,多起斷心而滅除之。設由放逸煩惱盛等之勢力故,發起尋覓過失之時,亦應勵力悔除防護,若如是行,力漸微劣。
Therefore, once someone is your guru, whether he or she has small or great faults, contemplate the disadvantages of examining for his or her faults. Repeatedly think about eliminating that tendency, and then stop it. Even when the influence of factors such as an overabundance of afflictions or a lack of conscientiousness leads you to conceive a fault in your guru, take pains to confess this and restrain yourself from ever doing it again. Once you have done this, the influence of that conception will gradually diminish.
只要是自己的上師,不論他的過失大小,都應該想到觀上師過失會造成的所有過患,因此而經常生起斷除觀過的心,最後就可以把這些過患都滅除。萬一因為放逸煩惱的勢力強大,而導致生起觀過之心,也應該努力懺悔淨除,並且積極防護,避免再犯。能夠照著這樣去做的話,放逸煩惱的勢力便會逐漸微弱。

- 應當思惟,尋求師過所有過患, contemplate the disadvantages of examining for his or her faults. 應該思量觀察上師過失可能造成的所有壞處
- 多起斷心而滅除之。 Repeatedly think about eliminating that tendency, and then stop it. 經常生起斷除觀過的心,乃至滅除這些過患
- 設由放逸煩惱盛等之勢力故, Even when the influence of factors such as an overabundance of afflictions or a lack of conscientiousness假設由於放逸煩惱的勢力增盛之緣故
- 發起尋覓過失之時, leads you to conceive a fault in your guru, 導致觀過之心生起的時候
- 亦應勵力悔除防護, take pains to confess this and restrain yourself from ever doing it again. 也應該努力懺悔淨除並加防護,以免再犯
- 若如是行, Once you have done this, 如果照著這樣去做的話
- 力漸微劣。 the influence of that conception will gradually diminish. 放逸煩惱的勢力就會逐漸微弱
- 無著菩薩造玄奘譯《顯揚聖教論》卷十九〈攝勝決擇品第十一之三〉,二十種煩惱緣如下:「…煩惱緣有二十種者:一、樂;二、苦;三、不苦不樂;四、欲;五、尋;六、觸;七、先所串習;八、隨眠;九、不親近善友;十、不聽聞正法;十一、不如理作意;十二、不信;十三、懈怠;十四、失念;十五、散亂;十六、不正知;十七、放逸煩惱;十八、異生性;十九、由離欲;二十、由受生。…」
