若念唯此即完足耶,雖能正住,若無簡擇善說正道,惡說似道,二事慧力,猶非其器。故須具慧解彼二說,則能棄捨無堅實品取諸堅實。
Question: Is just that one characteristic enough?
Reply: Though nonpartisan, if you do not have the mental force to distinguish between correct paths of good explanation and counterfeit paths of false explanation, you are not fit to listen to the teachings.
Therefore, you must have the intelligence that understands both of these. By this account you will give up what is unproductive, and then adopt what is productive.
如果問說「單單這樣就夠了嗎?」然後回答說:「雖然不墮黨類,但是如果沒有辨別善說正道與惡說似道的智慧力,就還不能算是聞器。因此必須具備辨別這兩件事的智慧力,才能棄無堅實品而取堅實品。」

  • 唯此即完足耶 Is just that one characteristic enough? 這樣足夠了嗎?(意思是只有「正住」這樣的特質)
  • 雖能正住 Though nonpartisan 雖然沒有偏執不墮黨類
  • 若無簡擇二事慧力 if you do not have the mental force to distinguish between 如果缺乏分辨這兩樣東西的慧力
  • 善說正道 correct paths of good explanation 清淨道(【《中華佛教百科全書》】:「指正確的教法,或可資依循的正確實踐法。即所謂的『無漏正真之道』,亦即可趣向涅槃的正直之道。」)
  • 惡說似道 counterfeit paths of false explanation 惡說相似道。明‧楊卓《佛學次第統編》:「惡說者,謂惡言說也。徒為無用之論義者,是為惡說。」
  • 猶非其器 you are not fit to listen to the teachings 仍然不堪為法器
  • 故須具慧 you must have the intelligence 所以必須具足能的智慧
  • 解彼二說 that understands both of these理解上述二者(即善說與惡說)
  • 則能棄捨 By this account you will give up藉此棄捨
  • 無堅實品 what is unproductive 沒有意義的方向
  • 取諸堅實 adopt what is productive 獲取真正的利益
