Sung-pu-wa had many gurus and listened to any correct explanation. Thus, when coming from Kham (Khams), he even listened to a lay practitioner explaining the teachings alongside the road. His disciples said that this was an inappropriate way to receive the teachings, to which he replied, "Do not say that. I have received two benefits." Geshe Drom-dón-ba had few gurus—not more than five.
桑樸瓦有許多位上師，凡是開講法筵他都會去聆聽。當他從康地來到藏地的途中，有一位居士正在說法，他也前往恭聽，周圍弟子勸阻道：「您這樣做會有失威儀」他答道：「你們不該這樣說，我獲得了兩種利益」善知識敦巴的上師很少，只有五位。

- 徒眾白曰： His disciples said弟子們就跟他說
- 「從彼聽聞，退自威儀。」 this was an inappropriate way to receive the teachings 意思是一位出家眾聽在家居士講法，有失威儀（會顯得不莊重），英文版只翻譯出「這是一個接受法理的不恰當方式」，但沒有解釋為何不恰當
- 答云： to which he replied 桑樸瓦就回答
- 「汝莫作是言 Do not say that 你不應該這樣說
- 我得二益。」 I have received two benefits 我得到兩種好處，師父解釋為聽法與隨喜的好處
- 善知識敦巴者，尊重尠少 Geshe Drom-dón-ba had few gurus 種敦巴大師的上師非常少
- 數未過五 not more than five 數量沒有超過五位
