其信總之亦有多種，謂信三寶，業果，四諦，然此中者，謂信尊重。此復弟子於尊重所，應如何觀。如《金剛手灌頂續》云：「秘密主，弟子於阿闍黎所應如何觀，如於佛薄伽梵即應如是。其心若如是，其善常生長，彼當速成佛，利一切世間。」
In general, faith is of many types—faith in the three jewels, faith in karma and its effects. faith in the four noble truths. However, here we are speaking of faith in the guru. With regard to how disciples should view their gurus, the 《Tantra Bestowing the Initiation of Vajrapāni》 says: If you would ask, O Lord of Secrets, how disciples should view masters, then I would answer that they should view them just as they view the Bhagavan. If the disciples view their masters in this way, they will always cultivate virtues. They will become buddhas and benefit the entire world.
一般而言，信心有許多種，如信三寶、業果、四諦等；但此處則是指信上師。而弟子應該如何看待上師？《金剛手灌頂續》中說：「秘密主！弟子應當如何看待阿闍黎？應該向對佛事尊那樣看待上師。弟子的內心如果是這樣，就能恆常不斷地生長善法。他將成就佛果，利益一切世間。」

• 其信總之亦有多種 In general, faith is of many types總之，信又可分幾種
• 謂信三寶，業果，四諦 faith in the three jewels, faith in karma and its effects, faith in the four noble truths. 譬如信三寶、信業果和信四諦等
• 然此中者，謂信尊重 However, here we are speaking of faith in the guru.
• 此復弟子於尊重所，應如何觀 With regard to how disciples should view their gurus 此外，弟子對上師，應該如何觀想呢？
• 如《金剛手灌頂續》云： the 《Tantra Bestowing the Initiation of Vajrapāni》 says 像《金剛手灌頂續》說
• 「秘密主，弟子於阿闍黎所應如何觀 If you would ask, O Lord of Secrets, how disciples should view masters 金剛手菩薩，弟子對阿闍黎應該如何觀想
• 如於佛薄伽梵即應如是 then I would answer that they should view them just as they view the Bhagavan 就像對佛薄伽梵怎麼觀想，那樣子就對了
• 其心若如是 If the disciples view their masters in this way 他的心如果像這樣
• 其善常生長 they will always cultivate virtues 他的善根就會經常增長
• 彼當速成佛 They will become buddhas and 那麼他一定很快就能成佛
• 利一切世間。」 benefit the entire world. 利益世間一切有情

有於依怙發大聲白：「阿底峽請教授。」如其答云：「哈哈，我卻具有好好耳根，言教授者，謂是信心信信。」信為極重要
Then again, when someone asked the Elder in a loud voice, "Atisha, please give an instruction," he laughed. "Ha, ha. My hearing is very good. For me to give personal instructions you need faith, faith, faith!" Thus, faith is extremely important.
曾有人像依怙阿底峽尊者大喊：「阿底峽，請傳教授！」尊者答道：「呵呵，我倒是有一副很好的耳朵阿！提到教授，就是信心阿！信心，信心」如上所述，信心絕端重要。

敦巴請問大依怙云：「藏地多有修行者，然無獲得殊勝德者，何耶？」依怙答云：「大乘功德，生多生少，皆依尊重，乃能生起。汝藏地人，於尊重所，僅凡庸想，由何能生。」
Geshe Drom-dón-ba said to Atisha, "In Tibet there are many who are meditating and practicing, yet they are not attaining any special good qualities." The Elder said, "All the significant and insignificant good qualities that pertain to the Mahāyāna arise from relying on a guru. You Tibetans only think of gurus as being common persons. How can good qualities arise?"
種敦巴尊者曾請教大依怙阿底峽尊者：「藏地有眾多修行人，卻沒有人或的殊勝的功德，為什麼呢？」阿底峽尊者回答：「大乘的功德無論生多生少，全部都依憑著上師才能生起。你們西藏人隊上師僅懷著庸俗之想，怎麼可能生起功德？」

• 敦巴請問大依怙云： Geshe Drom-dón-ba said to Atisha, 敦巴尊者向阿底峽尊者請問說
• 「藏地多有修行者 In Tibet there are many who are meditating and practicing藏地有很多修行者
• 然無獲得殊勝德者，何耶？」 yet they are not attaining any special good qualities但是沒有人獲得殊勝功德，這是什麼原因
• 依怙答云： The Elder said阿底峽尊者回答說
• 「大乘功德，生多生少 All the significant and insignificant good qualities that pertain to the Mahāyāna大乘的功德，能生起多少
• 皆依尊重，乃能生起。 arise from relying on a guru全賴於上師，才能夠生起
• 汝藏地人，於尊重所，僅凡庸想 You Tibetans only think of gurus as being common persons. 你們藏地人，對待上師，只作凡夫想
• 由何能生。」 How can good qualities arise? 這哪能生起功德呢？
